Did You Know
Menopause is a universal life stage impacting half the population, yet many people reach it without adequate preparation. Menopause symptoms are widespread and often persist for years:
- Average age of onset is 51, with most women experiencing menopause between ages 45 and 56.
- Around 80% of women experience vasomotor symptoms (VMS), which can last 7 to 11 years on average.
- Genitourinary Syndrome of Menopause (GSM) affects 45–77% of women, with symptoms that may intensify and continue without treatment.
- Experiences of menopause, including age of onset and symptom severity, can vary across different sociocultural groups.
Menopause & the Workforce
When symptoms are not properly managed, the consequences — both economic and personal — can be substantial.
On an individual level, this can mean reduced earnings, stalled career growth, and diminished confidence.

Personalized Treatment: What to Expect
Menopause care should be highly personalized. A variety of effective hormonal and non-hormonal options are available, and the right approach depends on each individual's symptoms, health, and preferences. A holistic, informed approach ensures care is tailored to the whole person.
If Menopausal Hormone Therapy (MHT) is chosen:
- Some relief may be felt within a few weeks of starting treatment.
- Full benefits are typically seen within a few months.
- Treatment is individualized, and dosing may be adjusted over time to achieve the best outcome.

Everything you wanted to ask — and probably haven't.
Perimenopause is the transition phase that can begin in your late 30s or 40s, when hormones start fluctuating and symptoms appear — often years before periods stop. Menopause is officially marked 12 consecutive months after your last period. Both stages benefit from specialized care.
For most healthy women under 60 (or within 10 years of menopause), the benefits of menopausal hormone therapy outweigh the risks. Modern guidelines from The Menopause Society and SOGC reflect a much more nuanced understanding than the older 2002 WHI headlines. We assess every woman individually — your history, your goals, your risk profile.
Coverage depends on your OHIP eligibility, the type of consultation, and your provider. We'll be transparent about costs before you book. Many women find that the time and depth of care offered in private menopause programs is worth the investment after years of underserved standard visits.
Yes — most consults can be done virtually if you live in Ontario. We use a secure telehealth platform. In-person appointments are available when clinically appropriate, and lab work is ordered through your local lab.
Many primary care physicians weren't trained in modern menopause medicine. A second opinion from a clinician who specializes in this stage of life can be valuable — and we're glad to coordinate with your existing care team. You don't need to "fail" on other approaches first.
No referral required. You can book a discovery consult directly through our secure Juvonno portal.
